John Callanan

John is Managing Director at Tareeda Properties, a family-owned property investment and development company established in the 1970s. John first arrived in Byron Bay in 1972, working at the Belongil abattoirs and surfing uncrowded waves.
He's best known throughout the Northern Rivers for his philanthropic endeavours, including 16 years as a Director of the Northern Rivers Community Foundation, the last 8 years as its Chairperson, and now as the NRCF's Patron.
Louise O’Connell

Louise is General Manager of the Byron Community Centre, which provides essential community services and programs in the heart of town. Louise sees firsthand the impact of the housing crisis in the Byron Shire and beyond, both professionally and personally.
As a single mother, she's struggled in the past to find secure, affordable housing. She's passionate about community-led solutions to support vulnerable people.
Brandon Saul

Brandon is Managing Director of Creative Capital and the Mixed Media Group. Despite having degrees in both law and accounting, he’s never practised either, and has spent most of his adult life producing festivals and building Habitat, a mixed-use precinct in Byron.
Having lived locally since 1986, on and off, Brandon also sits on the Board for the Byron Community Centre and is passionate about addressing Byron’s housing problems.

Dr Tracey Mackie has over 20 years senior and executive management experience in the aged care, health, and community services. Tracey has a strong commercial and business development focus, driving success in private businesses, not-for-profit companies and government.
Tony Davies

CEO at Social Futures, Tony has over 20 years experience in leadership roles in government and private enterprise. He's a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has served on a number of boards, including the Australian Council of Social Services, Yfoundations and as President of the NSW Council of Social Services.
Tony has also served in a number of government advisory roles including the NSW Social Innovation Council and the Ministerial Advisory Group on vulnerable children, youth, and families.

Amber is a Byron Bay / Bundjalung Nation based architect. Her passion for the environment is at the core of everything she does. Drawing on her international experience, including work on projects in Vietnam, Bali and Brazil, Amber has nurtured an appreciation for localised and community-driven architecture. She sees design as the process of placing nature, animals, light and people at the centre of everyday life.
Rod Simpson
Urban Designer

Rod Simpson is a Sydney architect concerned with environmentally sustainable urban design. In 2015, he was appointed the Environment Commissioner of the Greater Sydney Commission.
Between 2003 and 2007 he was involved in the development of the "City of Cities" Metropolitan Strategy for Sydney. In 2008 he led the urban design and spatial planning of the Sustainable Sydney 2030 Strategy.
